Lilyana’s Soothing Balm

Beach Bums!

My husband’s cousin got married this past weekend, and the location and venue that they chose was on the coast. Naturally, we were very excited! A trip to the beach is always a welcome one, well, when the weather cooperates, that is. We were expecting it to be on the cool side, but God was good and it was actually very nice and somewhat warm! We were able to spend quite a bit of time walking along the beach, building sand castles, hunting for shells and just having a great time! Since the wedding was in the evening, we decided to stay overnight, which is my favorite way to spend the weekend!

Lilyana's Bug Bite Balm

Being parents with little kids, we were very prepared…or so we thought. We had beach towels, snacks, water bottles, sunscreen, and warmer swimwear. However, we didn’t account for sand fleas. Poor Lilyana takes after her mother and bugs love her. After getting all of the sand rinsed off of her, we noticed little pink bites on her legs and arms. Sand fleas. We’ve never used bug repellent at the beach before, but we will definitely have that on hand next trip!

The day after we got home, Lilyana and I made up our own creamy soothing balm! She loves to help make things in the kitchen, especially with essential oils. But more than that, she loves to use whatever we make up! Here is what we came up with, a deliciously smooth and soothing balm:

Bug Bite Balm

Lilyana’s Soothing Bug Bite Balm

1/3 c coconut oil
2 T beeswax
1 tsp Shea butter
25 drops YL Purification Essential Oil
15 drops YL Lavender Essential Oil

In a double boiler combine the coconut oil, beeswax and Shea butter over medium-low heat. Stir just until melted. Pour into a 4 ounce glass jar and add the essential oils., We like to use a bamboo skewer to stir the oils in, which makes for easier clean up! Allow to set a room temperature, cover and use as needed!
