Peppermint Mocha Body Scrub

Do you looooove coffee? Do you looooove chocolate? Do you looooove peppermint?

Well, while I was doing some reading and research, I came across a fascinating natural remedy for helping tighten stretched skin. Since I loooove coffee, the idea of making a body scrub with coffee grounds was very appealing! IMG_0504And then I started thinking some more, and thought, “Hey! While I’m at it, why not make a peppermint mocha body scrub?!?” Why all this tastiness in one scrub, you ask? Let me tell you!!

Be sure to use fresh organic caffeinated coffee, because the caffeine is what will help your skin tighten back up, and you don’t want to have to worry about chemicals in the roasting process! Caffeine constricts blood vessels to reduce redness and aids in circulation. Not only that, it can also dehydrate fatty cells, resulting in the water disappearing from the surface of your skin. The coffee grounds will also help reduce puffiness and swelling! In fact, research at the University of Sao Paulo has proven that the application of skin cream containing caffeine reduced the size of cellulite fat cells by 17%!! You want to use fresh grounds, and not the ones you used in your coffee this morning for two reasons. One, the caffeine content will be depleted (yikes!) and two, the water in the grounds can breed bacteria (bigger yikes!).

IMG_3099I use coconut oil in almost all of my body care products. It has so many wonderful benefits for the skin, not to mention that it smells delicious! Also, in 100 grams of coconut oil, there is about 0.1 mg of vitamin E, which is also great for your skin!

Peppermint oil is a lovely oil that helps reduce cellulite lines and it also increases blood flow. Oh, and it smells so good in this scrub!

The unsweetened cocoa powder contains copper, which helps your skin produce collagen, which in turn helps tighten loose skin. Cocoa is also a good source of antioxidants, which repairs damage due to environmental pollutants and free radicals.

Peppermint Mocha Body Scrub

1/2 cup coconut oil
1 cup ground organic coffee
1/2 cup turbinado sugar
1/4 cup cocoa powder
5-10 drops YL Peppermint essential oil

Melt the coconut oil over low heat, stirring just until melted. Set aside to cool a bit. In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Once the coconut oil has cooled off, but hasn’t reached it’s solid stage again, add it to the coffee mixture, stirring to combine. Add the peppermint essential oil, mixing well. Store in a glass jar with a lid.

When you are ready to use it, be sure you are IN the shower. This stuff is messy! But trust me, it’s fun and your skin will feel great after you are done! Get a good sized scoop of your body scrub, and trying hard not to eat it, massage well into the area that you want to concentrate on. Rub it vigorously into your skin, in a clockwise manner for 3-5 minutes. Rinse well in the shower. When you get out and dry off and enjoy your deliciously soft skin!

Use this 1-3 times a week, and drink lots of water after each application!
